Women in Ssingo County have launched a fundraising initiative aimed at mobilizing resources to support development programs within the Buganda Kingdom.
The campaign encourages women to contribute through the purchase of Buganda certificates valued at one million shillings each.
During the launch at the Mutuba I county headquarters in Bukuya, a committee was unveiled to coordinate fundraising activities across the county.
The initiative targets shs 70 million, which will be presented to the Buganda Kingdom headquarters as a contribution toward development efforts.
The initiative forms part of the kingdom’s broader "Ettoffaali" program, through which subjects voluntarily contribute resources to support the social and economic growth of Buganda.
Speaking at the event, Regina Naseremba officially inaugurated the fundraising drive and introduced a committee of men who will work alongside women to strengthen the effort.
Naseremba urged women to remain united and work collectively to ensure the kingdom’s progress.
“Unity and cooperation among our people, especially women, are essential if we are to achieve our goal of rebuilding and strengthening Buganda,” she said.
The head of the women’s leadership structure in Ssingo County, Nalumbuye Gaudensia, encouraged women to actively participate in the initiative and prepare for an upcoming women’s gathering scheduled for April 12, where they will welcome the queen of Buganda, Sylvia Nabagereka.
“This initiative will only succeed if women take full responsibility and actively support the programs aimed at developing our kingdom,” Nalumbuye said.
Meanwhile, Jackson Muwonge, the county chief representing the Kabaka of Buganda in Mutuba I county, called upon men to support women in mobilizing resources for the kingdom.
“Men should work hand in hand with women in initiatives like these because the development of Buganda requires the collective effort of all its people,” he noted.
The chairperson of the men’s leadership structure in Ssingo County, Abey Ssenyonjo, who served as chief mobilizer during the event, urged participants to embrace the fundraising initiative and recognize its benefits for the kingdom.
“Supporting programs that strengthen Buganda’s institutions is one way our people can contribute to the kingdom’s progress,” Ssenyonjo said, while also encouraging residents to continue advocating for the federal system of governance as a means of strengthening Buganda’s autonomy.
Many participants welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the fundraising drive would unite people in the county and contribute to the continued development of the Buganda Kingdom.
